Roger Daltrey wore this elaborate fringed shawl on stage when The Who performed at the historic 1967 Monterey Pop Festival. The Festival was held June 16 - 18 at the Monterey Fairgrounds in Monterey, California and featured some of biggest names in music at that time. The Who performed at the show on the final day in the evening. The two acts following them were The Grateful Dead and Jimi Hendrix, making his U.S. debut and launching his career. The Who opened their set with "Substitute" and closed it with the iconic "My Generation", guitar smashing and all. This legendary shawl belonged to Daltrey and he can be seen wearing it in many photographs from the concert. A few months after the concert, right after The Who performed at the Coliseum in Indianapolis. Roger and Pete Townshend stopped into a club called LeScene in Fountain Square, Indianapolis, where Roger met a girl named Linda Kidwell. After the club closed the owner Tom Bredwell gave Roger and Pete a ride to the Holiday Inn where they were staying, and Linda came along. Roger asked Linda if she wanted to go upstairs to his room for a drink, but since she was 18, the owner Tom Bredwell wouldn't let her go. Roger then asked Linda if he could have the Mexican poncho she was wearing and she said "no". He then asked if she would trade him for something and she said "yes". He then went up to his room and brought down the cape he wore on stage at Monterey, and they traded capes. The cape is accompanied by a letter from Linda Kidwell and photos from the festival. Overall very good condition with natural stage wear. Comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll™ Certificate of Authenticity.
