This is actress Sharon Tate's engagement ring, given to her by fiancee Roman Polanski, the famed director. After Sharon's tragic murder in 1969, known as the Tate-LaBianca Murders, by the infamous Manson Family, Roman gave away some of her personal effects to her intimate group of friends. Her engagement ring was one of these personal items. Roman had given Sharon the ring in 1967, two years prior to her death.
